Mark and Mel on the run for deafblind charity

Campbells Showroom Director, Mark Heycock and his fiancee, Melanie Cotton, will be putting their best foot forward in this year’s Virgin London Marathon to raise money for deafblind children and adults.

Mark and Melanie were inspired to take on the grueling 26.2 mile challenge to raise money for Sense, the national deafblind charity, after learning how the charity had supported a friend who has visual and hearing impairments.

“We wanted to set our own challenge to support deafblind people to overcome the huge barriers they face on a daily basis”, said Mark.

Yet, while one marathon is achievement enough for most people, Mark and Melanie have set themselves the challenge of a lifetime– completing five major marathons together before Mark hits 50 next year.

“We ran the Berlin marathon in September and this will be our second London marathon. We train together but it can get a little bit competitive on race days – Mel finished before me in London last year, but, in my defence, I was dressed as Robin in a Batman and Robin duo so it was pretty hard going!”

Mark and Melanie are well on their way to meeting their £3000 fundraising target through a combination of events including raffles and bucket-shaking in shopping centres.

They will be attending the Daventry Business Club breakfast on 5th April along with a representative from Sense, who will talk about the charity and the difference the money raised by Mark and Melanie will make to the lives of deafblind people.
