What makes somewhere a good place to live?
It’s a fair question, and the answer will be different for everyone.
For some people, it’s being close to work. For others, it’s a good school, somewhere for the children to play or a good local shop. And for plenty of people, it’s having a bit more space to breathe.
And that’s where Monksmoor really stands out.
The Monksmoor development was built on the ’21st Century Garden Village Principles’, the vision for which, according to the builders Crest Nicholson, is for a “beautiful sustainable, culturally rich, economically independent and green space to live.” As well as the core values being centred around “the organic creation of a true community.”
It’s easy to see why the area has become such an important popular part of Daventry. There’s so much happening, but it still feels quiet. It’s well kept and tidy, and you’re never far from a walk, a playground, the canal or the countryside. And then there’s Daventry Country Park, right next door.
Space to walk and explore
The Monksmoor development was built so that its residents can enjoy the local countryside but still benefit from being within easy reach of Daventry Town Centre, which is just a five-minute drive away.
One of the main things that stands out about Monksmoor is how easy it is to get outside. You don’t have to plan a day trip or jump in the car. There are countryside walks outside your door, open spaces to enjoy and many routes where you can head out for a wander.
It might be the school run followed by a walk. Taking the dog out in the evening. Getting the children some fresh air at the weekend. Or just clearing your head.
We must mention the views. Transform your walk with a beautiful view. There is something quite nice about looking across open countryside, you feel you have space to breathe and grow. This is exactly the feel Monksmoor gives. Relax and take it all in.
Then there’s the Country Park
Just next to Monksmoor is Daventry Country Park, and this is one of those local amenities that’s easy to take for granted when it’s on your doorstep.
The park surrounds the reservoir and has a mixture of woodland, meadows and waterside walks, so there’s lots to explore. There are different walking routes depending on how far you fancy going, and it’s a good place for a proper stroll rather than just a quick walk around the block.
For families, there’s an adventure playground, picnic areas and open space for children to run around. For adults, there are quieter walks, views across the water and plenty of opportunities to enjoy the countryside.
It’s one of those places that works for different people at different times. Nothing complicated. Just somewhere lovely to have nearby.
Life beside the canal
The Grand Union Canal is another part of what makes the location interesting.
There’s something about taking a walk along the towpath that makes you slow down a little. You can watch the boats go by and enjoy the scenery around you. It’s another option when you fancy getting outside, and it gives you a completely different route from the walks around the Country Park.
For anyone who enjoys walking or cycling, having the canal so close is a real highlight.
And if you’re out with the children, it’s another opportunity to explore somewhere different without having to go very far. Keeping their busy minds interested and excited.
A place for families
There are play areas and green spaces within Monksmoor, and the recently built Monksmoor Primary School as well as having amenities at Monksfield on the Ashby Fields development which is approximately a 5-minute walk away. This includes a local Pub, Tesco, Boots, Doctors’, Nursery and Take Away.
These things do matter when you’re thinking about everyday life. It’s not just about what a place looks like when you first visit. It’s about how it works on a Tuesday morning when everyone is trying to get out of the door, or on a Saturday afternoon when the kids need entertaining.
Having a school nearby, places to play and plenty of outdoor space can make a real difference.
More on the way
Monksmoor is still developing, which means the community is continuing to grow.
New shops are being built, including a Co-op bringing essentials into the area and making those everyday trips a little easier. It’s the sort of thing you might not think much about until you need something quickly. Milk for breakfast. Something for dinner. A few bits and pieces without having to make a trip into town.
Having a local shop within the community is a useful addition, and it’s another sign of Monksmoor developing into a place where people can do more of their everyday life locally.
And it’s quiet
This is probably one of the simplest things to say about Monksmoor, but it’s worth saying.
It’s quiet. Not isolated. Not miles from anywhere. Just pleasantly quiet.
Its tidy, plenty of countryside and space to breathe but also the convenience of being in Daventry. That balance is difficult to get right.
So, what’s it like?
Well, it’s easy to see the appeal.
Good walks, great views, the canal, the country park, playgrounds, primary school and a growing community.
And most importantly, it feels like somewhere people can actually enjoy living. A place to call your home.
It’s close to town, but once you’re out walking, it feels a world away. There’s a real sense of peace here, and that’s part of what makes Monksmoor feel like home.
