If you are looking for a simple festive activity to enjoy with the children this December, Canons Ashby has a lovely little Christmas craft session taking place in its historic church.
Decorate a Christmas Crown takes place on Saturday 12th December 2026, giving children the chance to create their own festive crown before heading off to explore Canons Ashby’s Christmas decorations.
The activity runs from 11am to 2pm and costs £1.50 per crown, with normal National Trust admission also applying.
No advance booking is needed.

Visitors should start at Visitor Reception, where you can pay for the activity before making your way to the church.
Make your own festive crown
Children can decorate a gold crown with festive stickers and gems, giving them something of their own to wear as they explore Canons Ashby.
The activity is aimed at families and ties in nicely with the property’s Christmas theme.
Once the crown is finished, you can head off to see the festive decorations around Canons Ashby, which this year are inspired by the legends of King Arthur, knights, wizards and dragons.
Christmas in the Priory Church
The crown-making activity takes place inside the Priory Church at Canons Ashby.
There will also be a Christmas tree to see inside the church, which should make it a particularly atmospheric setting for a festive craft session.
The church can be chilly in December, so the National Trust recommends wrapping up warmly.
Make a day of it
The crown activity is only one part of a Christmas visit to Canons Ashby.
The property is also running its Christmas Quest throughout December, with the house dressed for the festive season and family-friendly Arthurian touches throughout.
That means you can easily combine the craft session with a walk around the house and gardens rather than making a special trip just for the crown-making.
