If you are in Daventry early on Sunday 13th September, you may notice a little more activity than usual around the Leisure Centre and Country Park.

The Viridian Daventry Triathlon 2026 returns for another year, bringing together swimmers, cyclists and runners for a sprint distance event right here in Daventry.

Starting at Daventry Leisure Centre, competitors will take on a 400m pool swim, followed by a 20km cycle through the Northamptonshire countryside, before finishing with a 5km run around Daventry Country Park.

It is a great local event for those taking part, but it is also one that residents can enjoy from the sidelines.

Event Details

Date: Sunday 13th September 2026
Race start: From 7.30am
Location: Daventry Leisure Centre and Daventry Country Park
Event type: Sprint triathlon
Organiser: Rugby Triathlon Club

The event starts with the swim at Daventry Leisure Centre, with the transition area based nearby on Lodge Road.

From there, competitors head out into the surrounding countryside on the bike before returning to Daventry for the final run.

What does the race involve?

The event is made up of three stages.

400m swim

The first challenge takes place in the 25 metre swimming pool at Daventry Leisure Centre.

Competitors complete 16 lengths, with lap counters on hand to help keep track.

That pool based format also makes the event a little more approachable for anyone attempting their first triathlon.

20km cycle

Once out of the pool, competitors move into transition before setting off on a single lap, 20km cycle route through the Northamptonshire countryside.

It gives the race a distinctly local feel, with the course heading beyond the town centre and into the surrounding rural roads before competitors return to Daventry.

5km run

The final stage is a 5km lap around Daventry Country Park.

For spectators, this is one of the easiest parts of the event to enjoy, with runners making their way through familiar local surroundings before heading towards the finish.

Taking part individually or as a team

You do not necessarily have to tackle all three disciplines yourself.

Competitors can enter the Viridian Daventry Triathlon individually, or enter as part of a relay team, allowing different team members to take on the swim, cycle and run.

That makes it a good option for groups of friends, family members or club mates who fancy taking part together.

Individual entry for the 2026 race is currently listed at £45, while relay team entry is £60, before booking fees.

The event is open to athletes aged 16 and over.

A good first triathlon

One of the things the organisers highlight is how suitable the Daventry event can be for people new to triathlon.

The swim takes place in a pool rather than open water, there are counters available to help competitors keep track of their lengths and the distances follow the traditional sprint format.

That does not mean it is only for beginners.

More experienced competitors also return each year, with the event having established course records and age category prizes.

Everyone who finishes the race receives a medal and event T-shirt.

Fancy going along to watch?

You do not need to be competing to enjoy the day.

With parts of the event taking place around Daventry Leisure Centre, Lodge Road and Daventry Country Park, there are opportunities for local residents to see competitors in action and support them as they make their way through the course.

The Country Park is likely to be one of the most enjoyable places to catch the action, particularly as competitors tackle the final 5km run.

If you are planning to watch, it is worth checking the organiser’s latest race information beforehand, as road closures and access arrangements will be in place around parts of the finish area.
