With British sportsmen and women taking top spots on podiums at the recent Commonwealth Games and the European Athletics and Aquatics Championships, how does property investment fare against its key competitors? Namely Gold and FTSE Shares.

Property continues to outperform, gold and UK share prices to the top spot based on price growth over the past year.

Making it the most viable option for investment at the moment.

On average, properties in the UK have increased by 11% in one year.

This sits just higher than the price increase of gold (10.9%) and significantly higher than average share prices on the FTSE 100 (5.6%).

Over the longer term, property has also performed well. The average price of residential property increased by 65% over the past decade, compared to just under 40% for gold prices and 32% growth for the FTSE.

Of course, all investments are subject to economic fluctuations but, at present, demand for property remains higher than in the pre-pandemic market of 2019 and stock levels are still low.
