Living in Weedon
Weedon Bec was named as the overall winner of the 2015 Northamptonshire Best Village Competition. The annual awards celebrate community spirit and quality of life in Northamptonshires villages.
As well as being named overall winner Weedon Bec was also named best large village with judges commending it for its “welcoming and vibrant community.”
Weedon Bec, usually called just “Weedon” when including Lower and Upper Weedon were once distinct villages now merged into one. The “Bec” part of the name is derived from the Abbey of Bec Hellouin in France which owned most of the village until King Henry VIII dissolved Monasteries and gave it to Eton College!
The Grand Union Canal and West Coast Main Line both pass through the village.
In the Area
Weedon itself is very nicely situated in the middle of England and is a friendly community with lots of amenities; pubs, shops, doctors, pharmacy and hairdressers to name but a few.
The local primary school is highly regarded and offers a pleasant environment for children to learn.
The main road networks are close at hand which makes commuting to anywhere very easy – A5, A45, M1, M45, M6. Long Buckby railway station is only a short car journey away, too.
