Living in Crick
Crick is a fantastic village that so many people are eager to move into. If you ever visit, make sure you have a good drive around the area. The village has so much character to offer as do the friendly people that live here.
Why not take a walk down the canal and have a coffee at Crick Wharf whilst you’re here?
Commuting from Crick is amazing with J18 of the M1, the A5, M6 and M45 all being so close.
Mainline rail services are popular with Long Buckby, Rugby or Northampton just a short drive away.
Local shops include a co-op, tthe post office run by Chris and Margaret (lovely people) as well as various other little boutique shops, pubs and restaurants dotted around the village.
There is also an infant school in the heart of the village and for the older ones, there are school buses running from the highly regarded Guilsborough School.
It is unclear where the name Crick comes from. Some believe it was derived from the Celtic word ‘Kreik’ which means rock or cliff, other believe it may have come from the Middle Age term ‘Creic’ which could have been a derivation of creek – i.e a small stream, the original small streams in the area would have provided water for the early settlers.
The history of the village goes all the way back through the times of the Doomsday Book all the way back to the Iron Age! Remains of Roman history have also been found in the area.
The Leicester Line of The Grand Union Canal runs just around Crick and the Crick Tunnel is 1397m long!
Over the May Bank Holiday the Crick Boat show is a must see and the Crick Scarecrow Weekend in July is a real community treat.
As it stands, Crick has 48 listed buildings within it’s parish, all of which are Grade II listed except for St. Margarets Church which is Grade I.
Crick has a growing population that is now approaching 2,000.
Crick really has a distinctive rural character due to the village being surrounded with a 360 view of the rolling hillside.
Crick offers the perfect village lifestyle with it’s many walks that are right on your doorstop including Cracks Hill, Millennium Wood and of course, the beautiful Grand Union canal.
”“I’ve specialised in selling property in Crick and the surrounding villages for a few years now and I am amazed at how much involvement we now have in the local community, you soon get to know a lot of people when you’ve been this job for long enough – I love it.
Don’t get me wrong, I also love selling properties in Daventry, Rugby, Northampton and other areas in Northamptonshire and Warwickshire. In fact more recently we have sold properties all over the country. However, I have a particular close relationship with Crick, West Haddon and Yelvertoft, I just love these villages and it is a pleasure to spend so much time in them.“
